A quick poll of our readers on a theoretical offering…
How would you like this laptop pre-loaded with one year of Zonbu service for an all in price of $500 + shipping.
AMD Sempron 3500+ 1.8GHz – 15.4″ WXGA – 1GB DDR2 SDRAM – 80GB – DVD-Writer (DVD-RAM/R/RW) – Wi-Fi, Fast Ethernet and all the Zonbu goodness you can handle.
After that, you pay $14.95/month a la carte or $150/year once a year for the Zonbu service.
Are you interested?
I am. In fact I might buy some for work if such a deal existed…
You can read more about the laptop specs here.
-Mr. Zonbu
first i would say that i wish i had $500USD to spend on a computer of any kind. maybe then i would ask if i could get it with a nice solid-state drive like the eeePC (who needs a fragile, whirring and battery draining 80GB HD with a Zonbu subscription?) and the smaller, lighter and generally more portable packaging of the eeePC.
I think the zonbu pricing model is wrong. I would like to see an annual fee for software
updates, say $50 per year and then my own Amazon S3 account for storage, where I
pay for what I use. This type of service could be offered on several different hardware
platforms to address different user needs.
I currently am a jungle disk user and think they have the business model completely right.
I have some semi new hardware standing in a closet that would work fine, I wish I could just load the Zonbu sw and service on that rather than having to purchase hardware again. I also agree with Laika, if you are going to do a laptop, why not the eeePC?

or the Everex Cloudbook, which is rumored to come with gOS installed?
