The “white desktop” strikes again…

I was just shutting down for the night, closing my applications and the “white desktop” struck agan.

I closed the IM client from its menu (selected the Quit option) and after it closed, my desktop blanked to white again. I can’t see my wallpaper or any desktop icons. Pour quoi?
